A selection of i-Say members were recently surveyed about home renovations. Some of the results are presented below.

Which room in your home would you say most needs renovation?

Regardless of gender, age, location or income, respondents felt that the kitchen and the bathroom were by far the two rooms that most needed to be renovated. Eleven percent need to renovate their living/family rooms, and 7% a bedroom.

In this regard, the respondents also felt that by renovating the bathroom and/or the kitchen, the value of their home would be improved.

Higher income households were more likely to determine which room needs renovating. For instance, 33% of the respondents earning less than $25,000 did not know which room needed renovating, whereas only 18.4% of the respondents earning more than $100,000 did not know.

Home renovation books and/or magazines

When asked whether they subscribed to, bought or borrowed home renovation books or magazines, only 6.5% of the respondents said they currently had a subscription to a home renovation magazine, and only 13.5% of the respondents regularly buy home renovation books/magazines. Over one third of them tend to borrow these books/magazines.

Respondents aged 35 to 55 were more likely to borrow home renovation books are magazines than those in other age groups.
